Week 5 - Emerging Technology in Storytelling

This week I worked with my colleague MaryAnn on mapping a character in Unreal gaming engine with facial tracking to the iPhone XR Pro. The assignment involved syncing the iPhone face tracker to the character’s already rigged face out of Fuse / Make Human and involved connecting a phone to the Motion Capture Studio’s private router. We got it to work on Mary’s application.

However, once I migrated the character into another project file and enabled the Live Link Pose plugin the scene stopped working.

I think part of my problem was that I could not get the Live Link Pose node to
”see” the iPhone unless I copied and pasted the node from the other project file blueprint. Part of me suspects what I did wrong had to do with the integration. I brought in the animation file as opposed to the full character. However, when we went back to Mary’s project her character stopped working as well. This could also mean it was an issue with the phone’s connection to the computer. We suspected that it’s IP kept changing. Having said that, it’s hard to say.
